RE: Changes to Motor Vehicle Inspection Regulations

As of February 1, 2007, the regulation for Motor Vehicle Inspections in Nova Scotia have changed. Significant changes to the regulation include:

  • Removal of wheels to check brakes
  • Increase in fees ($25 for most cars and trucks)
  • New requirements for testers and increased compliance enforcement
  • Vehicles found to be un-roadworthy will not be issued a reject sticker thus placing the vehicle out of service.

In the case where a wheel or brake drum cannot be removed using normal shop practices, you will be informed and must authorize the additional work/cost. Should you choose to refuse the additional work, the vehicle will be rejected and deemed un-roadworthy.
